Matt Damon is People’s Sexiest Man Alive

Matt Damon takes the top honor in People Magazine’s Sexiest Man Alive 2007. Here’s what People had to say about the sexiest man alive:

George Clooney and Brad Pitt have shamelessly campaigned for him since 2001, but this year’s winner was Bourne to the title. “You’ve given an aging suburban dad the ego-boost of a lifetime,” Damon, 32, explained why he couldn’t possibly accept the crown – which perfectly demonstrates many of the reasons we chose him in the first place: irresistible sense of humor, rock solid family man, heart-melting humility.”

Who else made the list? Ryan Reynolds, James McAvoy, Brad Pitt, Javier Bardem, Patrick Dempsey, Dave Annable, Will Smith, Shemar Moore, Ben Affleck, Adrian Grenier, Will Yun Lee and Justin Timberlake.

Find out what People had to say about each of the sexiest men in their slideshow here and check out past Sexiest covers here.

The Women’s Club ... getting its finishing touches.

Join the Club

Tadmur builds a modern club for women at Sport City-Qatar

Tadmur Contracting and Trading Establishment was racing ahead to ensure the timely completion of the Doha Women’s Club by the end of August.

The QR90 million ($24.7 million) facility is specially designed to meet the recreational needs of the Qatari women and includes all indoor and outdoors sports facilities that could be expected of a modern club. It includes a health spa, business centre, library, tennis courts, indoor and outdoor swimming pool, squash courts, hair-dresser and beauty parlour and restaurant and café.
The building features an expansive glazed façade and a space frame supporting a curvilinear roof comprising aluminium cladding panels.
Tadmur is currently engaged in the finishing works on the project, which include the erection of the suspended ceilings and commissioning of the electro-mechanical works.
“The main challenge we faced was the time constraints in executing this project,” says a spokesman for Tadmur.
Among the key aspects of the Tadmur contract was the design and construction of the club’s swimming pool and spas and plunge pool building.
“Sport City-Qatar is a state-of-the-art sports complex and we are using a high standard of workmanship and materials while ensuring that the project is completed by the end of August,” says Ghaith Alqudah, division manager of Tadmur Swimming Pool and Spas Division.
Tadmur started work on the clubhouse in July 2005.
“We have designed and built the indoor, outdoor (main) and children’s swimming pools, the entrance and rear fountains, plunge pool and portable spa within the club. Due to our vast experience in the field, we successfully tackled the challenge of the intricate designing involved in the swimming pools and tiles and special filtration and heating systems for the swimming pool, jacuzzi, spas and plunge pools,” he adds.
As a well-diversified multidisciplinary company with interests in contracting, trading and service activities, Tadmur deals in the supply of building materials, such as cables and accessories, waterproofing materials, fibreglass insulation, timber, plywood, asbestos sheets, tiles, water heaters, oils and lubricants, copper pipes and fittings, kitchen and sanitary ware; foodstuff and consumables; as well as civil, waterproofing, mechanical and electrical contracting.

Pope Benedict XVI, right, greeting King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia at the Vatican on Tuesday.

Pope Benedict XVI and King Abdullah of Saudi Arabia clasped hands at the Vatican on Tuesday in a cordial meeting, the first meeting ever between a pope and the Saudi monarch, who is entrusted to protect Mecca, the birthplace of Muhammad and center of the Islamic world.

The pair met for half an hour, speaking through interpreters, in a conversation that a Vatican press release later said had covered such themes as the "value of collaboration between Christians, Muslims and Jews for promoting peace" and "the necessity of finding a just solution" of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

A SIMPLE IDEA TO PREVENT OF PLANET FROM GOING DRY

This maybe just a detail, but we love it !!! The message is clear, unless you're blind !!! Created by Saatchi & Saatchi for WWF.

"To make people realize that saving the planet starts with them saving paper, we took a standard paper dispenser and made a simple modification with green foil and the silhouette of South America. This allowed us to prove that the survival of the forest is directly connected to what people consume."

I know some people who already went beyond expectations in order to "save our planet" by simply not washing their hands, it saves water, it saves paper ... you'll thank them later ;-)

In The Memory: Yasser Arafat - The Nobel Peace Prize 1994

Mohammed Abdel-Raouf Arafat As Qudwa al-Hussaeini
was born on 24 August 1929 in Cairo**, his father a textile merchant who was a Palestinian with some Egyptian ancestry, his mother from an old Palestinian family in Jerusalem. She died when Yasir, as he was called, was five years old, and he was sent to live with his maternal uncle in Jerusalem, the capital of the British Mandate of Palestine. He has revealed little about his childhood, but one of his earliest memories is of British soldiers breaking into his uncle's house after midnight, beating members of the family and smashing furniture. After four years in Jerusalem, his father brought him back to Cairo, where an older sister took care of him and his siblings. Arafat never mentions his father, who was not close to his children. Arafat did not attend his father's funeral in 1952. In Cairo, before he was seventeen Arafat was smuggling arms to Palestine to be used against the British and the Jews. At nineteen, during the war between the Jews and the Arab states, Arafat left his studies at the University of Faud I (later Cairo University) to fight against the Jews in the Gaza area. The defeat of the Arabs and the establishment of the state of Israel left him in such despair that he applied for a visa to study at the University of Texas. Recovering his spirits and retaining his dream of an independent Palestinian homeland, he returned to Faud University to major in engineering but spent most of his time as leader of the Palestinian students. He did manage to get his degree in 1956, worked briefly in Egypt, then resettled in Kuwait, first being employed in the department of public works, next successfully running his own contracting firm. He spent all his spare time in political activities, to which he contributed most of the profits. In 1958 he and his friends founded Al-Fatah, an underground network of secret cells, which in 1959 began to publish a magazine advocating armed struggle against Israel. At the end of 1964 Arafat left Kuwait to become a full-time revolutionary, organising Fatah raids into Israel from Jordan. It was also in 1964 that the Palestine Liberation Organisation (PLO) was established, under the sponsorship of the Arab League, bringing together a number of groups all working to free Palestine for the Palestinians. The Arab states favoured a more conciliatory policy than Fatah's, but after their defeat by Israel in the 1967 Six-Day War, Fatah emerged from the underground as the most powerful and best organised of the groups making up the PLO, took over that organisation in 1969 when Arafat became the chairman of the PLO executive committee. The PLO was no longer to be something of a puppet organisation of the Arab states, wanting to keep the Palestinians quiet, but an independent nationalist organisation, based in Jordan. Arafat developed the PLO into a state within the state of Jordan with its own military forces. King Hussein of Jordan, disturbed by its guerrilla attacks on Israel and other violent methods, eventually expelled the PLO from his country. Arafat sought to build a similar organisation in Lebanon, but this time was driven out by an Israeli military invasion. He kept the organization alive, however, by moving its headquarters to Tunis. He was a survivor himself, escaping death in an airplane crash, surviving any assassination attempts by Israeli intelligence agencies, and recovering from a serious stroke. His life was one of constant travel, moving from country to country to promote the Palestinian cause, always keeping his movements secret, as he did any details about his private life. Even his marriage to Suha Tawil, a Palestinian half his age, was kept secret for some fifteen months. She had already begun significant humanitarian activities at home, especially for disabled children, but the prominent part she took in the public events in Oslo was a surprise for many Arafat-watchers. Since then, their daughter, Zahwa, named after Arafat's mother, has been born. The period after the expulsion from Lebanon was a low time for Arafat and the PLO. Then the intifada (shaking) protest movement strengthened Arafat by directing world attention to the difficult plight of the Palestinians. In 1988 came a change of policy. In a speech at a special United Nations session held in Geneva, Switzerland, Arafat declared that the PLO renounced terrorism and supported "the right of all parties concerned in the Middle East conflict to live in peace and security, including the state of Palestine, Israel and other neighbours". The prospects for a peace agreement with Israel now brightened. After a setback when the PLO supported Iraq in the Persian Gulf War of 1991, the peace process began in earnest, leading to the Oslo Accords of 1993. This agreement included provision for the Palestinian elections which took place in early 1996, and Arafat was elected President of the Palestine Authority. Like other Arab regimes in the area, however, Arafat's governing style tended to be more dictatorial than democratic. When the right-wing government of Benjamin Netanyahu came to power in Israel in 1996, the peace process slowed down considerably. Much depends upon the nature of the new Israeli government, which will result from the elections to be held in 1999.

Yasser Arafat died on November 11, 2004.
and after a few days its gonna be The 3rd Anniversary of Palestinian Authority Chairman "Yasser Arafat".... In The Memory....to the End.

Sony Ericsson Pre-Christmas Cellphone Lineup Leaked?

Those crazy cats at Cellpassion are quite confidently picking November 6th as a proposed launch date for three new Sony Ericsson cellphones. Cellphonepassion has managed to get a few pics together, they are not great quality, but it offers a feel of what may be coming:

Apparently the handsets will include the W890i, which will be a 3G Walkman branded cellphone, have a 3.2MP camera, an accelerometer for gesture based controls and a refresh to Sony's Walkman media player software. The second phone in the supposed list will be the W380i, a lower end Walkman phone also toting gesture based controls. Finally, the last model, (which has been officially unveiled, but not launched), shall go by the K660i moniker and is designed specifically for Internet browsing. The launch details could all quite possibly be rhubarb, but we shall keep you posted on any developments. [Sony Ericsson, Cellpassion via BGR]

SEMA Sideshow: Heels and wheels [VIDEO]

SEMA is unique in many ways compared to the other major auto shows we cover. One of these is the reputation the show has for the number of models hired for promotion that can be found throughout the convention center. It seemed everywhere we went there was a model handing out literature, signing posters or just standing next to products on display. In a sea of thousands of goods, many of the vendors understand how much a pretty face can increase traffic and lead to more potential sales. This being Las Vegas, it was getting to the point where just a pretty face wasn't enough anymore.

The outfits these gals wear started getting more and more outrageous a long time ago. That trend thankfully stopped a year ago and took a few steps back in the interest of decency. This year's models tended to be much more modestly dressed and wholesome looking, with a few notable exceptions. Check them all out in the gallery below, and be sure to view the video after the jump that was probably more fun for us to make than it is for you to watch, but we'll let you be the judge of that.
